Cleaning mattress toppers – what is possible and what is not?
In short: The mattress topper itself should not be washed. The cover, however, should be washed – and regularly. We explain why this is the case and how to care for your topper here.
Why mattress toppers are sensitive
The core of a mattress topper is usually made of foam or latex. It is not suitable for use with water. & Spin-drying and can be reshaped by washing & Loss of function. Therefore: Cleaning yes – washing no.
What you can clean vs. What you shouldn't do
That works:
- Washing topper cover: The key hygiene component.
- Superficial cleaning: Careful suction of the core.
- Ventilation: Spot ventilation, regular airing out.
This damages the topper:
- Put the mattress topper in the washing machine.
- completely soak the core
- use aggressive cleaning agents
- re-cover in a damp state

A high-quality mattress topper cover protects the core, absorbs moisture, and can be hygienically cleaned. Therefore, the cover is the most important element in mattress care.
