Overview of the best -known sleep diseases

Some of the most common sleep disorders and a brief explanation of what they are:
- Sleep apnea: A condition in which breathing is briefly interrupted during sleep. The affected person typically wakes up several times a night to catch their breath.
- Insomnia: A sleep disorder in which the affected person has difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Insomnia can lead to fatigue, irritability, and other health problems.
- Parasomnia: A group of sleep disorders that include sleepwalking, night terrors, and teeth grinding.
- Narcolepsy: A condition in which the affected person suddenly falls asleep or has difficulty staying awake. Narcolepsy can lead to daytime sleep attacks.
- Restless Leg Syndrome: A condition in which the affected person experiences an unpleasant tingling or pulling sensation in the legs, leading to an urge to move. This can cause difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
- Periodic limb movements: A sleep disorder in which the affected person performs repeated involuntary movements of the limbs, which can lead to sleep disturbances and fatigue.
- REM sleep behavior disorder: A condition in which the affected person exhibits unusual behaviors during REM sleep (the stage of sleep in which we dream), such as z.B. Screaming or sleepwalking.
- Kleine-Levin syndrome: A rare condition in which the affected person experiences sudden excessive sleepiness that may last for days or weeks.
